Contractors are responding to a fallen tree that is blocking State Highway 2 at Pikowai.

"Motorists are asked to avoid State Highway 2 north of Matatā, due to a road blockage,' says a NZ Police spokesperson.

"A tree has fallen over the road and will take some time to clear."

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and expect delays in the area.
