UPDATED 12.49PM: State Highway 2 in the Waikato is now open.

The road was closed earlier today following a serious crash near Kerepehi.

Initial indications suggest one person may have been seriously injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle crash near on State Highway 2 at Kerepehi.

Police were called about 9.50am.

Initial indications suggest one person may have been seriously injured.

"Pekapeka Road/SH2 is closed, with diversions in place, while emergency services work at the scene," says a police spokesperson.

"Please avoid the area, if possible."

No detour route is available and people are being asked to follow the directions of emergency services if they have to travel through the scene.
