Update, 1.50pm: State Highway 29A has reopened following a fatal crash on Saturday morning.
One person has died following a serious two-vehicle crash on SH29A which was reported to Police shortly after 6.35am.
Police thank motorists for their patience while diversions were in place.
Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

One person died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash which was reported to Police shortly after 6.35am.
Another person with moderate injuries has been transported to hospital.
There are diversions in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Northbound Traffic follow Maungatapu Rd and back to SH2. Southbound Traffic exit Taipari St Offramp to Mangatapu Rd back to SH29A.
Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
Update, 9.01am: One person has died following a serious crash in Tauranga this morning.
The two-vehicle crash on State Highway 29A was reported to Police shortly after 6.35am.
One person died at the scene and a second person has been transported to hospital in a moderate condition.
There are diversions in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Northbound Traffic follow Maungatapu Rd and back to SH2. Southbound Traffic exit Taipari St Offramp to Mangatapu Rd back to SH29A.
Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
Update, 8.10am: Due to a serious crash, State Highway 29A is closed between Maungatapu roundabout and Baypark roundabout.
A detour is in place.
Northbound traffic is advised to take the route from Maungatapu Road via SH29A, and southbound traffic to follow SH2.
Motorists are advised to follow the detour and allow extra travel time to complete journeys.
Earlier, 7am:
State Highway 29A, Maungatapu is blocked following a serious crash involving two cars.
Police says the crash happened shortly after 6:35am about 1km north of the Maungatapu roundabout, which is where traffic is being diverted.
Motorists are asked to take alternate routes.
It is unknown if there are any injuries.
