One person has died in a crash involving two vehicles in Taupō on Saturday night.

The crash, which was reported to police at 9.10pm happened on the East Taupō Arterial of State Highway 1, just north of Centennial Drive.

In addition to the person who has died, four people have serious injuries and have been transported to Rotorua Hospital.

The road was partially closed on Saturday night while Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.
