One person with serious injuries was airlifted to hospital on Friday evening following a vehicle crash on State Highway 2, south of Katikati.

Hato Hone St John says three people were seriously injured and one received moderate injuries.

Emergency services including four ambulances were called to the scene about 5.15pm.

SH2 was closed between Hot Springs Road and Sharp Road in Aongatete for more than four hours following the crash.

A serious crash investigation took place, followed by a crash clean up.

Motorists were advised there would be long delays around the crash scene as no detour was available.

Police say the road reopened at 11.45pm.

More than four hours

Another terrible accident and condolences to victims . But no detours available seems a very long time so over four hours complete shutdown of traffic must have been chaotic. The injured would be prioritized and safely but surely with modern technologies the investigation could be shorter? Drone footage movies , etc clearing the road ? Katikati emergency on scene in minutes. Would this happen overseas?
