Update, 8.05am: One person has died following a crash on State Highway 35 on Saturday night.

Police report that the single vehicle crash happened around 10.35pm about 6km north of Waihau Bay.

The road was closed for some time following the crash and motorists were asked to take alternate routes.

"Inquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the crash," says a Police spokesperson.

Earlier, 7am: A serious crash on State Highway 35 closed the road between Waihau Bay and Cape Runaway on Saturday night.

Emergency services have been in attendance at a serious crash involving one vehicle on SH 35.

"The single vehicle crash happened around 10.35pm about 6km north of Waihau Bay," says a police spokesperson.

The road was closed for some time so motorists were asked to take alternate routes.
