Police advise that Horotiu Rd/State Highway 39 in Waikato is expected to reopen shortly after a fatal crash earlier on Saturday.

One person has died following two cars colliding at around 11am.

Police would like to thank motorists for their patience following this crash.

Update, 3pm: One person has died following a serious crash in Waikato.

Two vehicles collided on Horotiu Rd/State Highway 39 on Saturday morning.

"The road remains closed," says a Police spokesperson.

Police are still asking people to avoid the area.

Police are responding to a serious crash on Horotiu Rd, off State Highway 39, in Waikato.

Two vehicles have collided leading to the closure of Horotiu Rd.

Police were called at about 11am.

"Please avoid the area if possible," says a Police spokesperson.
