Update, 8.25pm: A car fire near the Cambridge Road off-ramp between Judea and Bethlehem has been extinguished and traffic is starting to flow once again.
"We received a report of a car fire on Tamatea Arikinui Drive/Cambridge Rd off-ramp at 7.35pm," says a police spokesperson.
"The car had pulled over - it sounds like it might have been mechanical."
Police say that the fire was almost out and the right-hand lane was being reopened.
Earlier, 8.08pm: SunLive readers are reporting a vehicle on fire on Takitimu Drive which is causing a traffic buildup.
"There was a car with smoke coming out of it on the side of the motorway and obvious fire underneath. I could see red flames under the car," says a SunLive reader.
"There were probably four cars pulled over as I went past. The drivers were getting out to help the person.
"I was trying to change lanes safely and couldn't see if there was a driver in the car but could see there was help there from other drivers. And there was a lot of smoke."
Another SunLive reader is reporting that traffic has built up around the site.
"There's a massive queue of traffic. Police are on the scene and there's probably like 100 to 150 cars stopped as both lanes were blocked. We ended up taking the toll road at the last second to bypass it." says a SunLive reader.
