7.10pm Update: One person has died following a single vehicle crash on State Highway 35, Te Kaha.
Police advise that the road between Opotiki to Te Araroa has been closed while an investigation takes place.
Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
Earler, 6.30pm: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 35, Te Kaha which was reported around 4:40pm.
Initial indications suggest there are serious injuries, and a helicopter has been dispatched to the scene.
"Due to a crash in this area stop/go traffic management is in place. Please pass the scene with care," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area..
Earlier 5pm: Emergency services including a helicopter are on the way to the scene of a crash on State Highway 35 near Te Kaha.
"Police have received a report of a single vehicle crash on SH35, Te Kaha where a car has gone down a bank," says a police spokesperson.
The crash was reported around 4.40pm.
"One person is reported to remain trapped in the vehicle and a helicopter has been dispatched to the scene.
"There are no reports of road closures at this stage," says a police spokesperson.
