Bay of Plenty Police are very concerned about the four fatalities that happened over the weekend in the district.
Road policing manager Inspector Brent Crowe says 'any death on our roads is an absolute tragedy, let alone multiple fatalities, over such a short period of time”.
'Police are now working hard to understand why these crashes occurred and our focus is on supporting the families and providing them with answers.
'Such a sudden loss of life is extremely hard for families to come to terms with and is life changing, knowing a loved one is gone.
'The impact is also keenly felt by the emergency services who attend.”
Police urge all drivers to drive with care.
Brent says every time someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle, they have a responsibility to themselves and other road users to drive safely, free from impairment, securely restrained and completely focused on the task at hand.
'In large part the answer to reducing trauma on our roads rests with those behind the wheel.”

The expressway from 15th to Bethlehem + Tauriko is a prime example. It's no longer an expressway - It's a bloody racetrack. The amount of absolute idiots that scream along there is phenomenal. Boy racers, motorbikes and trucks are the biggest idiots and incredibly the amount of grandma's that overtake you is amazing. Then of course there's all those on their phones. Rarely, VERY rarely is there a Police car anywhere. It needs a few days of Policing HEAVILY with radar and vehicles standing by for pursuit. Yesterday I was overtaken by a male in a black station wagon doing I estimate 140kph with no rego plates and a green sticker.
Bring back MOT

Think it's time to bring back Mot or an independent government transport ministry as the police don't seem to have time to monitor roads like they use to 20 years ago.
Then of Course

Yesterday in Sunlive was the idiot truck driver overtaking and described as a 'risky manuvoure'. REALLY, risky? Try idiotic, self-centered, unprofessional, reckless lunatic but it gets downplayed as 'risky' and Police were 'disappointed'. In the video, you can pause it at 1 second and get the company name and the truck number easily. He should be hunted down and charged with reckless use or dangerous use of a motor vehicle endangering others. HT license revoked and heavily fined.
golly gosh
