Update, 6pm: One person has died following the single-vehicle crash on Mottram Road, Nukuhou, earlier today.

Another person has sustained serious injuries.

Police were called to the scene about 2.30pm.

The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.

"Please continue to avoid the area, if possible," says a police spokesperson.

Earlier, 3.40pm: Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash in Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on Mottram Road, Nukuhou.

Police were called about 2.30pm.

"Initial indications are there have been serious injuries," says a police spokesperson.

The road is closed, with diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to please avoid the area if possible.
