Update, 5pm. A truck that has broken down on Hewletts Road has now been towed out of the traffic lanes into the bus lane.

The truck broke down between Jean Batten Dr and Waimarie St.

Traffic is now flowing in both lanes.

Traffic is building up along Hewletts Road following a truck breakdown.

"A truck has broken down on Hewletts Rd between Jean Batten Dr and Waimarie St," says a Tauranga Transport Operation Centre spokesperson.

"It is currently blocking the right lane of the west bound - towards Tauranga City -side of Hewletts Rd."

Significant traffic congestion has formed as a result of the blockage.
