UPDATE 5.37pm: One person had died following a serious crash on Broadlands Road, Tauhara Forest, Taupō earlier today.

"The road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene," says a police spokesperson.

"Diversions are in place.

"Motorists should take SH5 as an alternate route."

EARLIER 5.05pm: Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash on Broadlands Road, Tauhara Forest, Taupō.

"Police were called about 4.20pm," says a police spokesperson.

"The road is closed, with diversions in place.

"Motorists should please avoid the area if possible."
