Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious single-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 in the Bay of Penty Police District.

A police spokesperson says the crash, which was reported at 6.40pm, is near the intersection of Korohe Road, Turangi.

"The road is closed and diversions are in place.

"Motorists should expect delays and avoid the area if possible."
