UPDATED 9.05am: Maungatapu Bridge is now open following a truck crash earlier this morning.
A Tauranga City Council spokesperson confirmed both lanes are open and the truck has been removed from the scene.
'Delays may continue for some time until congestion clears.”
A witness that drove past the crash told SunLive it was a concrete truck that crashed and had been blocking traffic.
They said traffic was down to one lane and a stop go system was in place.
EARLIER: One lane of Maungatapu Bridge is reported to be blocked this morning.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hortline says a truck has crashed into the bridge.
"It is blocking one lane of the road.
"Unsure about injuries, but traffic is backed up."
Google's Live Traffic reporting confirms there are traffic delays on SH29A near the Maungatapu Bridge.
A Tauranga City Council spokesperson confirms a truck has crashed into the bridge in the southbound lane.
"Expect significant delays.
"Consider using an alternative route for southbound traffic from Te Maunga towards Maungatapu."
