The names of the two people who died as a result of a crash between a car and an ambulance on Tirau Road, Cambridge early last Wednesday morning have been released.

They were Deon Hadley, a 33 year old from Auckland, also known as Deon Johnson-Hadley, and ambulance officer Susan Cutler from Rotorua.

Hadley died at the scene, while 66-year-old Susan Cutler of Rotorua passed away in hospital later in the day.

"Police extends our condolences to the deceased's family and friends," says a police spokesperson.

"The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation."
