The men's first-team almost made West Coast Rangers wait while the WaiBOP Premiership concluded.

Tauranga City's first-team did their best to spoil the party against West Coast Rangers in their final away day fixture at the weekend but came up just short in a 2-2 draw which sees them slip back to fourth in the NRFL Men's Division 1.

West Coast came into the game needing a positive result to have a chance at claiming the league title but City quickly went to work at disappointing the healthy gathering of fans at Fred Taylor Park.

Braxton Fisher-Vanderveen continued his fine recent form, scoring in a fourth consecutive game, to give City the lead against the table-toppers.

Centre-back Campbell Higgins then doubled the advantage, with City going into the break with an encouraging lead.

However, West Coast had the extra motivation of playing for the title. After Joshua Armitt pulled one back just past the hour mark, Kofi Dwamena's smart touch and half-volley levelled the scoring and secured the title.

For Tauranga, the result pushes them back into fourth place with just one game left this season. They face Fencibles United at Links Ave this Saturday and need a positive result alongside a favour from Northern Rovers, who are facing third-placed East Coast Bays at McFetridge Park.

Tauranga City's women's team suffered a heavy defeat in the NRFL Women's Premier League - losing 7-1 to Eastern Suburbs.

They also have just one game remaining this season, taking on league champions Northern Rovers at Links Ave on Sunday.

The WaiBOP Premiership has now ended, although no Bay of Plenty teams actually took to the field this weekend.

Ngongotaha, looking to continue their fine recent form, were awarded a 3-0 victory after Hamilton Wanderers defaulted.

It means the final WaiBOP Premiership table looks as follows.
