One person has died and another is in critical condition following a crash near Te Puke.

A police spokesperson says emergency services are at the scene of a fatal crash on Rangiuru Road.

"Emergency services were alerted about 3.20am.

"One person died at the scene, and another is understood to have sustained critical injuries.

"Diversions remain in place while the serious crash unit examines the scene."

People are being asked to avoid using Rangiuru Road while the serious crash unit examines the scene.
