The family of a Rotorua missing kayaker are reaching out to the public to report any sightings of the teenager.

Gregory Flavell was reporting missing last week after last being seen around 2.30pm on Wendesday, August 10.

"Our whānau would like to reach out to the public concerning Gregory Flavell, who is still missing," says a statement from the family.

"He is Māori, 18-year-old, about 6 foot 1, with shoulder-length wavy hair, and has a light moustache and a goatee.

"He went missing Wednesday afternoon about 2-3pm while kayaking on Lake Rotorua on the eastern side of Mokoia Island. He was wearing black cargo pants, a printed black long-sleeved T-shirt with the number 53 on the sleeve, and a dark blue beanie.

"Our whānau wish to express our huge appreciation to all the services and the many volunteers and whanau searching for him."

Police have been searching for Gregory since he was reported missing. Search teams, including the police dive squad and the Navy, have been scouring Lake Rotorua and its shoreline for any signs.

To date, nothing of interest has been found.

A police spokesperson says the search will be reviewed and next steps considered.

"Some shoreline searches of the lake are expected to be conducted today."
