UPDATE 6.28pm: The traffic congestion, following the truck that broke down on Hewletts Road between the Bridge Marina and Tasman Quay, has been cleared.

"Traffic heading to Mount Maunganui along the Takitimu Expressway and over the Harbour Bridge will still experience some delays until the backlog of traffic can clear," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

EARLIER 4.19pm: A truck has broken down on Hewletts Road between the Bridge Marina and Tasman Quay, causing heavy traffic congestion.

"The fully laden truck is currently blocking the left hand lane and is causing congestion issues for motorists wishing to travel towards the mount."
