Larger than normal traffic delays are being reported on State Highway 2, near Te Puna.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are long lines of traffic on the highway, near Snodgrass Road.

According to Google's live traffic reporting, traffic is stalled from Wairoa Bridge through to past Te Puna.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency reports that tree maintenance work is being carried out on SH2, between Te Puna Road and Te Puna Station Road.

"There will be a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place until 4pm," says a spokesperson for the roading agency.
