State Highway 36 between Tauranga and Rotorua will be closed on Thursday and Friday this week due to emergency repairs needing to be carried out on the Mangapouri Bridge.
Waka Kotahi NZTA advise that there will be a full road closure from 10am on Thursday July 21 to 7pm on Friday July 22.
Motorists are advised to use designated detour routes.
"Northbound traffic please use State Highway 33," says an NZTA spokesperson.
"Southbound traffic please use State Highway 29."
Due to an uneven surface on SH36 at the Mangapouri Bridge, a temporary speed limit was put in place this morning, Tuesday July 19. Motorists have been informed via the Waka Kotahi website that the route is not suitable for heavy vehicles which are advised to use SH33.
Motorists are encouraged to check the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner site for traffic updates.

Awesome. 35 minute additional detour to and from work. Why not do it on the weekend where the road will be far quieter?

Why state highways still have One way bridges are beyond me.... not just fact your angling two down hill traffic flows into a joust. Not to mention how irratating shutting entire statehigh is, so maybe put a proper bridge across and have a decent go at this road to 0 instead of just changing a few numbers on speed signs
