Serious crash on SH2

UPDATE 10.48AM: State Highway 2, between Katikati and Omokoroa, is now open.

The road was closed earlier to allow emergency services to deal with a serious crash near Apata Station Road.

Police say two vehicles were involved in the crash and at least one person suffered moderate-serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

EARLIER:

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 2, between Katikati and Tauragna.

Waka Kotahi Transport Agency says the crash is affecting both lanes of the highway and traffic is at a standstill.

The crash is reported to be near Apata Station Road.

"A serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area. Delays are possible.

A police spokesperson says police were called to a crash on SH2 at 6.35am.

"There were two vehicles involved.

"The driver of one is reportedly in a moderate-serious condition. The driver of the second car looks to have left the scene on foot.

"The road has been blocked by the crash."

Diversions are as follows: Southbound traffic turn right at Wainui S Rd, left onto Esdaile Rd rejoin SH2. Northbound in reverse.

Driving that road is like a lucky dip. Until some government actually meets it obligations, and 4 lanes it, nothing will change. Just fix the bloody road.

Fix the bloody drivers. Plus: the Road Works need to be more pro active and pull in the speed signs or update them when they finish their shift. I went through 3 lengths of road works on Sunday, no workers, no loose chip and no dangerous conditions. Frustrated drivers breaking the set speed. Road workers may very well complain but they set the tone by basically crying wolf with their signage. You guys don't help yourselves!
