Police are warning motorists to expect delays on State Highway 29.
A police spokesperson says police are aware of increased traffic at the bottom of the Kaimai Range, on the Matamata side.
NZTA reports the traffic congestion is a result of a tangihanga/funeral at Ukaipo Marae on SH29.
"Police are monitoring the situation, however motorists are asked to take care when travelling through the area and expect delays."
Police say people are able to get through but there are delays.

Google's live traffic reporting shows delayed traffic on SH29, between SH28 and SH24.
People are advised to avoid the scene if possible.
Alternative route: Westbound traffic: left to SH28, right to Te Poi South Rd to return to SH29. Eastbound traffic in reverse.
At the scene?

Hope the police do more than monitor which is speak for stand back and do nothing much. But more hopefully they will take command and traffic manage to keep the traffic following well as it is a major public road.
Ttm? No?

Why the police? If your event is going to mess with traffic... get traffic management then i mean other events like marthons, concerts, sporting events and other events that affect the normal flow of traffic do it all have plans on how to reduce the affect to general public.
Because

The article says the police were monitoring so that means be there. Also they are also traffic officers and therefore have the authority to set the traffic control. But sure traffic control is fine but seems the price will be in charge
