TEL open after tractor crash

UPDATE 11.26AM: The Tauranga Eastern Link is now fully open.

One lane of the highway was closed due to a tractor and car crash earlier today.

A police spokesperson says the tractor rolled as a result of the crash.

"Two people have minor injuries."

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

UPDATE 7.16AM: One lane of the Tauranga Eastern Link is closed this morning.

Emergency services are responding to a tractor versus car crash.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says the crash scene is between the Kaituna River Bridge and the Parton Road over pass on the "sweeping bend affecting northbound traffic".

"On lane is closed and commuters could expect delays.

"

A police spokesperson says the tractor has rolled as a result of the crash.

"Two people have minor injuries and one lane is blocked."

Reports are coming in of a crash on the Tauranga Eastern Link.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a tractor and car have crashed in the Tauranga-bound lane of the highway.

"Not sure how bad it is, but people should expect delays."

Google's live traffic reporting shows traffic is stalled in the Tauranga-bound lane of the highway, closest to Bell Road.

Why on earth would tractors be allowed on the TEL.......a 110km/h road? They travel too slow for the road and should be banned. There are alternative routes which can be used.
