Cameron Road reopens after gas main strike

A gas main has been struck on Cameron Road in Tauranga.

UPDATE 1.20PM: Cameron Road is now open following an earlier closure due to a gas main leak, according to a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"The road has now been re-opened," says the spokesperson.

EARLIER 11.20AM: Tauaranga's Cameron Road is now closed in both directions.

Emergency services are dealing with a gas main leak.

Tauranga City Council says the road is closed in both directions between 13th and 15th aves.

Residents are being advised to stay inside.

"The gas in this area has been shut off.

"Businesses and residents can contact Cameron Road Joint Venture 0800 226 376 if they have any concerns."

Diversions are in place and people should expect delays.

EARLIER 10.32AM: Cameron Road is closed in Tauranga following gas main strike.

The road is closed between 15th Ave and 13th Ave, northbound, advises Tauranga City Council.

"The gas in this area has been shut off.

"Residents have been asked to stay inside. The northbound lane is closed and contractors are working to resolve the issue and restore the gas as soon as possible. We suggest people avoid this area until further notice.

"Businesses and residents can contact Cameron Road Joint Venture 0800 226 376 if they have any concerns."
