One person has sustained moderate injuries after a car crashed into a traffic light in Tauranga.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Sandhurst Drive at 7.10am.

A police spokesperson says the driver was reported to be out of the car and being checked over by St John.

'The pole is described as 'leaning well over”.”

A St John spokespersons says one ambulance responded to the scene.

'One patient was treated in a moderate condition. No transport was required.”

A photo sent to SunLive from a member of the public show the car had hit the pole head on.

'I just hope everyone keeps safe,” says the person who sent the photo in.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the traffic light is in the process of being fixed.
