One person has died following a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 5 in Waimangu, Rotorua on Wednesday night.

The crash occurred shortly before 10pm.

SH5 was closed between Tumunui and SH38, with motorists advised to take alternative routes or delay journeys.

The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene and the road reopened about 2:30am.
