There has been a serious vehicle collision on State Highway 2 near Whakamārama.

Ōmokoroa chief fire officer Ian Blunt says that a car travelling south crossed the centre-line and hit the real axle of a truck heading north.

"It bounced off of the axel of the first truck, spun around, and hit another truck heading north. This second truck took evasive action, and ended up on the side of the road," says Ian.

"The car is quite badly damaged, but there are no injuries."

"The road is very blocked."

Police are responding to the collision after being notified around 8.15am.

"The northbound lane is partially blocked. We have limited information at this stage re injuries," says a Police spokesperson.
