Police advise that a suspicious item found at Mount Maunganui on Monday is no longer considered to be a threat.

"Experts examining the item found on Waimarie Street have determined it does not pose a threat to safety and no longer deem it suspicious," says a Police spokesperson.

The discovery of a suspicious item at a Waimarie Street location in Mount Maunganui on Monday afternoon resulted in Police cordoning off surrounding roads.

Totara Street was closed due to an incident at the Totara St Waimarie St Container Port .

All cordons have now been lifted.

Police thank motorists and pedestrians for their patience.
