State Highway 1 is closed just north of Tokoroa, following a crash.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 4.10pm.

"Emergency services are currently responding and it appears that people have been injured," says a Police spokesperson.

The Serious Crash Unit have been notified.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to avoid the area if possible.
