Police have confirmed that one person has died following a serious crash on State Highway 30, Awakeri on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the crash, involving a motorcycle, at around 5.30pm.

Sadly, the motorcyclist died at the scene.

Diversions remained in place at SH 30 and Fortune Road and at SH 30 and Te Rahu Road while a scene examination was completed. Motorists were advised they should delay travel or seek an alternative route if possible.

The Serious Crash Unit was notified.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
