UPDATE 8.32AM: A cyclist has been taken to Tauranga Hospital this morning after being hit by a car.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says a vehicle has hit a cyclist outside Gate Pa School on Cameron Road.

"The injured cyclist has been taken to hospital.

"The crash scene is now clear. All lanes are opne."

EARLIER:

A cyclist is reported to have been hit by a car on Cameron Road.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says a vehicle has hit a cyclist outside Gate Pa School.

"The cyclist appears to be injured and still on the road.

"This is causing heaving congestion on Cameron Road in the Gate Pa area."

An ambulance crew is now on scene to tend to the injured cyclist.

"Expect delays on Cameron Road and use Fraser St as an alternative route if possible"
