Otumoetai Football Club is leading the way with some great initiatives for the 2022 year,
beginning with celebrating Women and Girls month.
'Last week, we held a Women and Girls event at the Club with more than 60 attendees, taking part in fun football activities and mini games. This was in collaboration with Tauranga City AFC,” says Otumoetai Football sponsor coordinator Suzy Picard.
'The event was led by females from both clubs, women's and College players, doing a great job, sharing their skills and giving back to their community, as role models.”
Suzy says one of the key areas Otumoetai Football Club is looking to work on this year is supporting girls and women in football.
In order to facilitate this, a woman's working group has been set up within the club to help reduce the drop out for girls from aged 13 and up, in line with the great promotion SportNZ is doing around their 'Its My Move” campaign.

The aim of the group is to also help identify female specific funding options for the club and look at a Female Development Officer role in future.
Suzy says they also want to problem solve as a team around reasons for girls leaving, identify problems early, and as a club have a plan/strategies in place for this.
'We want to grow our base of female players, look at opportunities for our girls and women to shine through mentoring, coaching junior and youth teams, project management, scholarships, and key relationship building.
'We have had great interest in the working group, and have players, school teachers, coaches and key staff from within the Club forming part of the group.”

If you would like to support the development of the club's female footballers, they have several options for business or corporate, in sponsorship.
'We would love you to be in partnership with us!
'For a great family based Football Club, where we encourage you to be involved and welcome your contribution, a Club where opportunities are available for both males and females to succeed and shine, this is the place you need to be.”
