SH2 open following crash

UPDATE 2.36PM; State Highway 2 is now open following a crash which blocked both lanes of the highway.

Emergency services were called to the crash, 300m north of the Wairoa Bridge, around 10am.

A police spokesperson says two people suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Tauranga City Council says the crash involved a ute and trailer, and a ute towing a caravan.

Council repots SH2 has been re-opened.

"There may still be delays while traffic tailback clears."

UPDATE: 1.10PM: Diversions are in place on State Highway 2 following a three vehicle crash near the Wairoa Bridge.

A ute and trailer collided with a ute towing a caravan, reports a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"

Occupants of the vehicles involved are being transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"

Tow trucks are on the way to clear the vehicles from the scene."

The crash scene is located 300m from the Wairoa Bridge.

Police are directing traffic down Te Puna Station Road.

"Both lanes are blocked and traffic is being diverted," says a police spokesperson

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a three car crash on State Highway 2.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the vehicles have crashed in the Wairoa Bridge, just north of Bethlehem.

"The road is blocked in both directions.

"People should expect delays."
