UPDATE 3.24PM: One lane of State Highway 30 has re-opened following a serious two-car crash near Rotorua.

Police were called to the incident at Kapenga at around 12.15pm.

'One person has been transported to hospital with serious injuries,” says a police spokesperson.

'Traffic management is in place and motorists should expect delays and avoid the area if possible.”

Police say enquiries in to the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

EARLIER 12:45PM: One person has been seriously injured in a car crash on State Highway 30 near Rotorua.

Emergency services are responding to a serious two-car crash in Kapenga.

Police say they were notified of the incident at around 12.15pm.
