Police are appealing for information following the death of a pedestrian on State Highway 1 in Pairere.

Initial inquiries indicated the person had been walking on SH1 towards Tirau and Police received several calls from motorists in the area at the time.

A police spokesperson says the crash occurred around 8.30pm when a man was struck by a vehicle on Saturday, March 12.

"Police believe the victim was hit by three subsequent vehicles, of which two have been identified.

"The third vehicle is described as a flat deck ute.

"Police are interested in making contact with motorists in the area at the time who can help piece together the events leading up to the incident."
