Rehabilitation and resurfacing of the stretch of Waihi Beach Road between Fisher and Trig roads is underway this week.
'The aim of rehabilitating this stretch of road is ultimately to reduce the number of crashes that have historically happened on that stretch of road,” says Adrian De Laborde, Hauraki District Council's Group Manager, Service Delivery.
The existing stretch has a number of defects which will be fixed including changes to the corner radii (edges) and the camber to make them safer.
The project is expected to be completed before Friday, April 15, this timeline allows for any delays caused by bad weather.
Splice Construction Ltd has been awarded the contract.
Traffic management onsite will include speed restrictions, lane diversions and stop – go operations either automatic traffic lights or manned which may have delays up to 5 minutes.
"We encourage road uses to take alternative routes where possible."
