A resident of Eversham Road in Mount Maunganui is calling for speed bumps to be installed following the late night collision of a vehicle into two parked cars.
'Council need to look at putting in speed bumps or something to slow people down,” says a resident at the scene.
Shortly after 10pm on Friday February 18, Police received a report of a crash involving three vehicles in the street.
'Only one of which was moving, the other two were parked on the side of Eversham Road,” says a Police spokesperson.

Police, Fire and Ambulance attended and one person was transported to Tauranga Hospital. The status of the injured person is still unknown.
The road was partially blocked for a time while emergency services dealt with the incident.
There was a power outage in the area following the crash that lasted for about three hours.
'A blue car took out the transformer as well. A while Corolla and another car were moved about eight metres from their parks,” says a resident at the scene.
'There was a gas bottle in the back of the blue car. This could have been way worse for everyone involved.”

The resident says it's no longer safe for those living in the street and those driving along it.
'It became a very dangerous road last year when a biker died. Now this. I feel really unsafe driving into my own driveway.”

For years we wanted a speed reduction on Pyes Pa road. Finally it happened but seems as there is no enforcement many still travel any speed they like. I estimate less than fifty percent obey the speed signs. So getting council to agree is has only partially successful. Traffic policing is pretty much no existent. Used to be a local traffic police but now it's part of general policing it's obviously not as effective. Police are becoming less visible and available over the years and we all see the change of priorities
Where are the Authorities?

It seems as if we have a society where the Police try to be invisible. That's a bit surprising when the Commissioner is know as 'The Lantern', (bright but needs to be carried!). We just dont have a force that is ensuring some degree of compliance is being met. I guess Wellington shows you that.
