The Ministry of Health is reporting five new cases of Covid-19 in the Bay of Plenty today.

During the 1pm stand-up, Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay says there are 92 new cases in total in the community in New Zealand today.

"Of those, 80 are in Auckland, two are in Waikato, one is in Northland, five are in the BOP, one is in the Lakes DHB area, one is on the Nelson/Marlborough area and two are in Taranaki."

McElnay says there are 79 people currently in hospital with the virus, with nine people in either ICU or HDU.

Joys Sushi in Te Puke has been added as a new location of interest for the Western Bay of Plenty region today.

A person who has tested positive for Covid-19 visited the location on December 1 from 12.45pm to 2pm.

People who were at the business during this time are being advised to self-monitor for CovidD-19 symptoms for 10 days after you were exposed, says a Ministry of Health spokesperson.

'If symptoms develop, get a test and stay at home until you get a negative test result.”
