A severe weather watch for strong wind is in force for the Bay of Plenty.
Heavy rain is being forecast for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay and severe gale southeasterlies are possible for parts of central North Island, says a statement from the MetService.
"A low to the northeast of New Zealand should continue to direct strong and moist southeasterlies over parts of the North Island through to Thursday.
"Rain is heavy at times in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay north of Napier, and southeasterlies may approach severe gale force about eastern Bay of Plenty, Taupo, Taihape, Taumarunui and North Taranaki.
"People are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made or further areas are added."
