A focus on solutions

With reference to Peter Turner of Pyes Pa (The Weekend Sun, July 2, page 14) on the topic of empty buses and his observation that 'the majority of the local population do not benefit from the service”, my question is why?

The bus service is available to everyone, and while I don't expect people to give up their cars, even occasional journey would help fill buses. Mr Turner could've bussed from Barkes Corner to 1st Ave, for example.

In the meantime, the Regional Council is about to make changes to some routes with reducing empty buses and 'not in service” windows because yes, as a bus user, I find it definitely unamusing when multiple buses in a row turn up at the CBD transport hub displaying 'not in service”.

Yes drivers are entitled to their breaks, but not so many at once. So let's be solution focussed, and use the service so you can benefit from it. Increased demand will also drive further improvements.

Buses

The author of the letter is correct in saying the buses are available and MR Turner could have used the service but they are wrong in saying it is available to all. It is not, many areas have limited or no service and for some, while they may have a service, catching a bus is impossible. Stops are often few and far between, and many very busy roads have to be crossed. A death-defying feat. Having said that, there does seem to be a hatred for buses on the part of many motorists who try to pass dangerously, will not let them back into traffic, and abuse both drivers and passengers.
