UPDATE 8.33AM: Delays are expected on State Highway 2 following a two-car crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, at the intersection of SH2 and Youngson Road, around 7am.

A police spokesperson says one person is reported to have sustained serious injuries and another person moderate injuries.

The northbound lane was blocked, but NZTA is reporting that both lanes of the highway are now open.

However, delays are still expected until the scene if fully cleared.

UPDATE 7.21AM: One person is reported to have sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 2.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says two vehicle have crash at the intersection of SH2 and Youngson Road, in Whakamarama.

A police spokesperson says they received a call to the crash at 7am.

"It appears one northbound lane is currently blocked.

"One person is reported to have sustained serious injuries and another person moderate injuries."

People are being advised to expect delays in the area until the crash scene is cleared.
