Tauranga City has extensive billboards and other publicity saying how great the futureproofing of Cameron Road will be.

My submission to the consultation predicted that it will be a backward step. Part of the reason is that TCC is trying to be all things to all people which won't work.

Due to the foresight of past Councillors, that section of Cameron Road currently provides magnificent commuter access.

Now, despite my hesitant support for bus lanes in place of carparks, the reality is that with numerous traffic lights and other impediments, buses and all traffic will be much slower due to reduced access and much more congestion.

With our cash strapped Council, our Commissioners would be best to defer the project, apart from tweaks, for a decision by future elected members in say five years' time.

Commissioners have no accountability to our citizens.
