Injured tramper rescued from Kaimai Range

A 64-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being rescued from the Kaimai Range.

The woman suffered a serious leg injury while tramping along the Rapurapu Kauri track on the Kaimai Range.

The TECT Rescue Helicopter Trust was dispatched to the injured woman to hospital around 11.30am on Sunday

A spokesperson for the rescue helicopter says it was lucky she had phone reception and managed to call 111.

The onboard Intensive Care Paramedic was winched to the patient and she was treated before both the ICP and patient were winched to the helicopter.

She was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.
