Not at all unexpected

So the Mayor has resigned.

Not really unexpected I guess considering that he immediately got offside with most of the other councillors and the commissioned report wasn't great.

The fact that he resigned after seeing the report speaks volumes.

A new Mayor may well solve some of the dysfunction.

The main problem council faces is that they are strapped for cash.

Dealing with the horrendous debt is an issue avoided by successive councils. The solution is simple of course, they must pay back 10 per cent of the debt every year. It gets easier every year I can assure you.

Obviously no big ticket works would be carried out for a couple of years but there are plenty of small jobs which need doing.

Here's a few:

Replace the toilets by the boat ramp on Pilot Bay, the existing ones are disgusting.

Start moving bus stops to behind the kerb.

Start putting car parking behind the kerb where possible.

Take the jackhammers to part of the Phoenix Park and put in some quiet areas with seating, low hedges and shelter from the sun.

Move the pedestrian crossings in the Greerton stuff up. Believe me people will appreciate it.

In the meantime I look forward to seeing who will be our next Mayor.
