What does a theatre company do during lock down?

'We watch musicals on line of course,” says Stage Right Trust director director Toni Henderson.

That's how she stumbled across the Broadway hit ‘First Date'.

'I watched it and laughed all the way through and decided that it would be an awesome musical to stage when we got out of lock down and could get back into theatres again,” says Toni.

'It has a storyline that we all can relate to, with two people being set up on a blind date.

'They turn up to the date to find that neither are their normal types and spend the rest of the evening wondering if they should still be there.”

Toni says that what makes this a bit different is that the rest of the dining patrons take on the personalities of the thoughts in their heads.

'With a witty script and very strong cast I felt it would be the ideal type of show for people to venture out to and have a laugh in what has been very trying times,” says Toni.

Actors Ashleen Fahy and Matt Henderson will play Casey and Aaron in 'First Date' with other characters being played by Melissa Nicholson, Bailey Hocking, Tiffany Wilkinson, Callum Thorburn and Jaden Mcleod.

A special ‘singles and date night' will be held on Tuesday October 13, hosted by Will Johnston.

'He will have some fun with the audience before the show and give away some great prizes.”

‘First Date' is being staged in the Xspace at Baycourt and runs from Saturday October 10 to Friday October 16. Tickets can be booked at Ticketek.
