Would you like to try your hand at sewing while helping tackle plastic pollution?

Boomerang Bags Tauranga is having a sewing bee at Our Place Tauranga today and would love some extra help. If you can't sew, that doesn't matter as there are plenty of other jobs to do.

Volunteers are also needed to help with cutting materials, pinning, ironing and stamping.

Boomerang Bags Tauranga is a community driven initiative tackling plastic pollution at the grassroots level. Volunteers get together to make re-usable bags using recycled materials as a means to provide a sustainable alternative to plastic bags.

The event today runs from 10.30am to 2pm and all ages are welcome. No experience is required.

Those with their own sewing machines or overlockers and have sewing skills are encouraged to bring them, as well as those who can bring a sewing machine but don't know how to sew. Those with sewing skills and no machine are also invited to participate, along with all those happy to help with cutting, pinning, ironing and stamping.

'All help is extremely valuable,” says a Boomerang Bags Tauranga spokesperson. 'We look forward to doing some crafts and helping out our environment.”
