Two dead after SH1 crash

Three people are reported to be in serious condition following the crash.

UPDATE 5.25pm: Two people have died following a crash near Galaxy Road on State Highway 1, Tokoroa, police have confirmed.

The crash occurred just after 1pm and involved three cars.

Three others sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital, a police spokesperson says.

'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash.”

'Diversions are still in place and police are working to reopen the road as soon as possible.”

With the current weather condition, Police are urging all motorists to exercise care and be aware of surface flooding, the spokesperson says.

UPDATE 2.19PM: Police can now confirm five people were involved in a crash on State Highway 1, Tokoroa.

The crash occurred just after 1pm and involved two cars.

"Helicopters have been dispatched to assist with transport of those injured in the crash," says a police spokesperson.

"An update on the injury status of those involved will be issued as soon as it is available.

"Diversions are in place around the crash site."

Motorists are asked to follow signage and/or the directions of emergency services staff.

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 1, Tokoroa.

The crash occurred just after 1pm and reportedly involved two cars, says a police spokesperson.

"Initial indications are that three people have been seriously injured.

"The road is blocked by the crash, which occurred between Main Road and Galaxy Road."
