Coromandel weather update

Heavy overnight rain is easing as the main weather system passes the Coromandel, but some roads around the district have been closed.

State Highway 25 (SH25) at Hikuai near Prescott's Garage is closed. If you're travelling from Thames over SH25A (Kopu-Hikuai Road), the turnoff to Whangamata is open.

Council roads:

Hikuai Settlement Road – Closed due to flooding

Hayes Place, Thames – Closed due to flooding

Victoria Street Thames – Flooding from 2nd ford at approximately 1.95km – Road closed

Kennedy Bay Road – Slip blocking 1 lane at approx. 6.5km point, road still open

No other roads are reported closed.

'No issues are expected from this morning's high tide at 10am,” Thames Coromandel District Council Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler says.

'Check with New Zealand Transport Agency for updates on state highways, especially around tonight's high tide at 10:30pm. Drive with caution and avoid unnecessary travel around tonight's high tide.”

Water systems:

Puriri
Pressure lost at the filter station and we are currently feeding from Hikutaia at reduced pressure and flow. A tanker is being placed at the Puriri Pub.

Omahu
Contractors are checking the system as low pressure have been reported.
